“Coincidence” relating my art and my life

December 25, 2006

While i was driving to the village Palechori i took some photos from the chapel of Saint Raphael, Saint Nicolas and saint Irini. This chapel is located next to the road i have been passing the last two months due to a change of the program of my work. I have never had the opportunity to stop and worship the god and the saints to this beautiful chapel because i am leaving the school Olimbion at Paliometocho at 2:15 and i have to be at Palechori at 3:00 to continue work every Thursday. I was seeing the chapel from the road and i was waiting to find time and stop. The time is crucial and i have to be panctual. Some kids wait for me every week and i couldn’t stop at the chapel. Last Thursday i found time because of Christmas holidays. I had an off for my lesson at Olimbion and i had time before continuing work at Palechori. So i had the chance and i stopped at the chapel. I was with an innocent creature inside the temple…

I parked the car and i walked to the chapel. The wind was blowing on the high hill and the view was panoramic. It was like a building in the sky.I saw a beautiful cat.It was mewing following me. I opened the door of the chapel and stepped inside. The cat followed me inside the chapel and was still mewing inside. It was like the cat wanted to tell me something but i just couldn’t understand. I was feeling a warm sensation and i was serene.

I have taken with me a paper entitled “The need of a spiritual guide” it was written by the monk Paisios (1924 – 1994)

Now i am reading a book about his biography. He is considered to be a real saint. He has lived a holy life on mount Athos and helped a lot of people who assure his mimiraculous life.

The photo below was taken before i visit the chapel on the way to my work. The sun is shining above the chapel. One can think  a lot of symbolisms.

My work “seeing the renaissance of the burnale man” has the same sun light as the photo taken before my visit to the chapel. The “plastic” man sees the light and waits for the regeneration.

1W14 – Week reflection

December 24, 2006

This December turned out to be a very busy month for me. Being ill with flu set me back for a while but my thoughts and ideas kept me productive concerning my studies. After recovering i have been practised with video editing preparing a Christmas video about the private school i am working at. I have been experimenting with audio too since at my last video psyche i didn’t use sound.I have added students Christmas wishes and also christmas intstrumental music at some parts. I have experimented again with video transitions and also light effects.

In January we have to submit our project essays and also prepare a video presentation concering our project proposals. I have to work on my essay so that i will prepare a solid work understandable by my teachers and fellow students. Basically the main part of my research, the Byzantine context, is not so familiar for everybody so i need to make it clear as possible. An interesting idea has hit the doors of my brain perception and i need to propose it as part of my research and project proposal. I will explain it in a new post.

During the last chat before Christmas holidays we got the final directions concerning the essays and the copyright protection matter was raised for discussion too.Our course tutor said that it will be on focus next year. The last year chat was fun too and everybody were embraced by the Christmas spirit.

I wish to everybody happy Christmas and a happy new year!

1W13 – Week Reflection

December 8, 2006

Unfortunately I have been sick with flu for more than a week and my progress have been affected to an extent. I lost the last chat on Tuesday with Andy and my classmates. For two weeks i am also thinking to buy a laptop computer. The research for this buy is troubling me of what laptop to buy. On the other hand i am thinking the possibility to buy a desktop computer instead of a laptop because of the better processing power of desktop computers. My desktop and its motherboard is getting old. It is difficult to decide between the two because of the different advantages of each computer.Mobility is for sure the best advantage of a laptop computer. Processing power is the advantage of a desktop workstation.

I am thinking of buying a mobile graphics workstation. They are different than the plain graphics business or  3d gaming notebooks.

Mobile workstation graphics processors are tuned using special BIOS code for higher performance in OpenGL.Another possibility is the tablet laptop where you can write and draw on the screen. After a research i have found that these screens still have drawbacks in drawing because still are not so advanced to draw with the same quality like on a single tablet. For rough drawings or using zbrush might be good! That is offcourse a hot extra!

1W12 – Week Reflection

December 5, 2006

The group discussed the proposal essays. Each student, also myself at the end of the chat discussed their projects getting feedback and initiating a constructive dialoque. The structure of the proposal essays was discussed so we write a good proposal essay with all the important points.

I found the party example of Jessica very interesting and important to notice:

party example:
- aim is to have a successful dinner party
- objective may be to meet some new people try some new food etc.
- rationale is why we need the party or its a worthwhile party to go to
- outcomes would be a description of the event
- methodologies are the ways in which you will cook – how early you will open the wine to breath how the gravy will work with red wine or white wine etc.
- risk assessment is the focuss on issues of saftey – so putting the plates in the oven to warm them may mean the guest could burn their fingers
- timetable contains all the planning + shopping + cooking + cleaning up the stuff
- bibliography: investigate what books / journals / websites etc. that you wish to use

Concerning my proposal my fellow students and Andy suggested some interesting ideas. My proposal, especially the research question needs some refinement so it will be more clear and concise.

1W12 – Researching methods for creation, animation and rendering of 3D environments

December 4, 2006

The chapel before the real construction will be designed. A digital replica of the structure will coexist with other imaginary elements in a digital scene (eg: an angel). The software used for rendering a 3d environment will be vue 6.

A snapshot of the program possibilities is shown below:

A paragraph for Vue features:

“It offers a high-end 3D scenery solution for SFX studios, animators, illustrators, architects, matte painters and CG professionals. It is strongly focused on power, productivity and inter-operability with existing toolkits.

Vue 6 naturally integrates and extends all major 3D applications to provide a complete, professional natural 3D studio.”
